Bob Woodward was born in Geneva Illinois to parents Jane and Alfred E. Woodward on 26th March 1943. His father was a prominent lawyer who later became a circuit court judge. After a divorce, Robert and his siblings had to be single-handedly raised by their father.
Education
Bob Woodward attended Wheaton Community in Wheaton, a town near his place of birth. He graduated in 1961. Woodward then moved on to Yale University with a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship.
He offered history and English literature and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the year 1965.
Career
After university, Bob Woodward began a five-year tour of duty as a communications officer in the navy. In 1970, he was admitted into Harvard School of Law but rejected it. He instead opted for a two-week shot at working for The Washington Post. Bob Woodward was unsuccessful. He was however referred to Montgomery County Sentinel in Maryland.
A year later, Woodward got accepted by The Washington Post and has been with The Post since then. He currently holds the title of assistant editor. Although he holds that title, he is no longer under the employment of The Post. He works there without any regular responsibilities.
Bob Woodward rose to considerable fame with his reports on the Watergate scandal alongside Carl Bernstein. Woodward made initial reports on the burglary of the Democratic National Committee headquarters on June 17, 1972.
These initial reports led to further investigations which exposed a number of political issues and ultimately led to the resignation of then-President Nixon.
Both Bob Woodward’s and Bernstein’s reports contributed to a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service won by The Washington Post in 1973.
Bob Woodward is also a prolific writer and has authored or co-authored 21 books, 13 of which became bestsellers. Perhaps his most popular book is ‘All the President’s Men’ which he co-authored with Carl Bernstein.
